SIBA: Small Pack Beer Competiton 2016

Treacle Stout (5% ABV) is awarded Silver in SIBA's Independent Beer Awards within the Region Beer Competition 2016 category... The award is open to porters, stouts, old ales, strong miles and strong brown ales.

Ossett Recognised for Food Safety & Quality

Ossett Brewery has been awarded one of the first Food Safety and Quality Certificates to be accredited by SIBA (the Society of Independent Brewers). The SIBA FSQ was launched in late 2015 to provide retailers with an independently assessed quality management mark to help them identify high-quality brewers in a crowded and competitive market place. Our Head Brewer, Paul Spencer, was awarded the unique standard following a rigorous audit of our brewery and practices back in December. Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2015

We are very happy to announce that once again our beers picked up a number of awards at the Hudderfield Camra Oktoberfest. The awards were voted for by the public out of 100+ beers: GOLD award in MILD category: Riverhead Brewery – Damson Mild SILVER award in STOUT/PORTER category: Fernandes – Black Voodoo GOLD award in STRONG BITTER category: Rat Brewery - Number of the Rat   Congratulations to our Brewers; Lisa, Steve & Robin!

Knaresborough in Bloom has delightfully awarded The Cross Keys with a gold certificate for excellence in the Best Floral Planters and Business Properities 2015 categories. Congratulations Cross Keys!        

‘RATSPUTIN’ KING OF THE KEGS

Our recently launched range of #RatCrafted keg beers caused quite a stir at the SIBA North Keg Beer Competition held at the Canal House, Nottingham on 23rd July. We’re chuffed that our characteristically hazy German style Wheat Beer ‘Rattus Rattus’ won the bronze medal in the Speciality Beer category and even more chuffed that our fantastically named 7.4% Russian Imperial Stout ‘Ratsputin’ won the gold medal in the Premium Strong Beer Category, beating Elland’s 1872 Porter into second place. We’re thrilled that our best selling beer has been nominated for ‘Drink of the Year’ in the 2015 Yorkshire Life Awards. Rat Against The Machine wins again!

Rat Against The Machine has again been recognised, this time by the prestigious International Brewing Awards! RATM keg won Bronze in the strong ale category. On Wednesday 29th April our Head Rodent, Paul Spencer and Rat Brewer, Robin Moss headed down to London to collect their well deserved medal. Congratulations Rat Brewery!  â€‹  â€‹

Three Pigeons Renovation Receives Commendation

After a sympathetic refurbishment in 2014 The Three Pigeons, Halifax has received a commendation from Halifax CivicTrust 2015 for the renovation of the two rear rooms.  The English Heritage Grade II listed building was built in 1932 and still retains most of its original Art Deco interior. It is also listed as one of the UK's top 10 most architecturally important pubs by the Campaign For Real Ale (Camra).  â€‹

Rat & Ratchet named the Best Cask Beer Pub in the UK at the Great British Pub Awards 2014

After the outstanding success of The Rat & Ratchet been named the Best Cask Beer Pub in the UK at the Great British Pub Awards 2014, Ossett Brewery held a celebratory event to mark this honour on Sunday 16th November 2014.  Richard Prest and Lisa Dunbar, Managers of the Rat, dressed themselves up for a glamourous night at The British Pub Awards, at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. Richard and Lisa were joined by a wide variety of other publicans from across the country, with a total of 17 awards been announced at the ceremony. Wakefield CAMRA Beer Festival 2014

Once again the Ossett Brewery team ventured to the annual Wakefield CAMRA beer festival. This year the festival featured ‘Celtic Fringe’ beers along with local brewers and real ciders. All the beer was on top form and included beer from all four of our microbreweries.  Our stand out beer of the festival was Fernandes Black Voodoo. June Bradbury from Wakefield CAMRA joined Steve at Fernandes to brew our favourite chocolate orange stout, and to make it even more unique the voodoo heading for the festival was racked into a wooden cask. Sheffield CAMRA 40th Steel Beer Festival

Our micro-breweries picked up a couple of awards at the Steel City beer festival at Kelham Island:   GOLD award in BITTER category: Fernandes Brewery – Half Nelson GOLD award in BEST BITTER category: Rat Brewery – Ratweiller   Half Nelson also won SILVER and Ratweiller bronze in the OVERALL BEER of the FESTIVAL competition. Our congratulations to all the brewers involved.

Great British Pub Awards

Having won the regional heat of the Great British Pub Awards our pub the Rat & Ratchet went through to the National Final in the Best Cask Beer Pub category. Rat & Ratchet Manager Richard Prest had entered the pub into the competition and went to London to attend the finals at The Park Lane Hilton. Richard and partner Lisa Dunbar were ecstatic to collect the overall award for Best Cask Beer Pub in the UK. A well deserved award for the Rat, for Richard and his team and also for Huddersfield - a contender for best cask beer town in Britain?

SIBA Success

The annual Society of Independent Brewers awards for the North East region were held at the York Beer Festival in September. Over 300 beers were judged by 70+ judges in a number of categories. We were chuffed to walk away with 3 awards from the 5 beers we entered: Silver King won Bronze in the Best Bitter category. King Rat won Bronze in the Strong Bitter category. Yorkshire Blonde Premium won Silver in the Golden Bottled Beer category. ​

International Beer Challenge Recognise Yorkshire Blonde

For 18 years the International Beer Challenge has rewarded and promoted excellent beers. The whole rainbow of beer complexity enters the IBC, with entries received from no fewer than 30 countries. We are delighted that our bottled Yorkshire Blonde has won a bronze medal in the Golden Ales 4.1-5% category. Look out for the IBC Medal Logo appearing on bottles of Yorkshire Blonde in future.

Fernandes CAMRA Presentation

Leeds Camra will be presenting brewer Steve Hutchinson with the award for overall beer of the festival for his Chocolate Orange inspired 'Black Voodoo'. It was one of the first beers to sell out at the festival out of a total of 177 beers. At the same time Wakefield Branch members will present Steve with the belated bronze award for best mild at the Great British Beer Festival 2013. Sounds like a good excuse for a few beers at the Fernandes Brewery Tap from midday.

Duck and Drake Leeds

Members of our 'Ossett Beer Excellence' Club and good friends, The Duck & Drake, are rightly proud to have been voted Leeds Camra's Pub of the Season for Summer 2014. Congratulations to Andy and all the team.

Stoutastic

Our multi award winning stout has picked up another award. Treacle Stout won the best stout category at Elescar Beer Festival earlier this month. Our newest pub,The Fox in York, is now open.. Extensive refurb throughout. 9 Local hand pulled ales, real cider, large beer garden.

Fenandes Black Voodoo

We've just being informed by Cleveland Camra that Black Voodoo won beer of the festival at their Saltburn Beer Festival. Thanks to everyone that drank and voted for our 'chocolate orange' beer.

Good Things Come In Threes

We're celebrating a trio of wins in recent beer competitions: BRADFORD BEER FESTIVAL - Voted Ossett's February seasonal beer, 'Dana', as joint best bitter. We reckon this months seasonal, 'Summit', is even better! LEEDS BEER FESTIVAL - We understand that Fernandes 'Black Voodoo' created a real buzz at the festival and nearly sold out on the first day. We're most proud that 'Black Voodoo' has been voted overall beer of the festival out of a total of 177 beers. We loook forward to the presentation at Leeds Hop on Sunday 13th April.
