OSSETT LAUNCHES NEW OCCASIONAL BEER
After numerous requests for a pale session ale from Ossett, the Gods have answered! We had the idea for a recipe, we trialled the beer on a small scale with much success but after much delibiration we found that the, usually brilliant, brewery staff had run out of ideas for a name!
It was time to think outside of the box. We had to use other resources. What better resource than the brain power of the customers in the seven Ossett pubs. So it was decided, a competition would be held. Over the space of a month customers were encouraged to put their suggestions in the boxes placed on the bars in each of the seven pubs.
After the month was up the ballot boxes were returned to the brewery. We were overwhelmed by the number of good entries, however there was one name that stood out from the rest, NEKTAR. The suggestion came from friend of the brewery and Travellers Inn resident Howard Hughes. His suggestion came with a slogan, "Drink of the Gods".

Nektar is a pale lager style session ale with plenty of hop aroma. It's ABV is 3.8% making it ideal for long hot summer afternoons.
There were two other names which also stood out from the crowd. Yorkshire Glory And Lions Roar dreamed up by Paul Enright and Adam Crawshaw respectively. These two names are being used for specials over the summer.
Competition winners recieved beer tokens for use in any Ossett pub.

EXCELSIOR IS VOTED UK NATIONAL CHAMPION STRONG ALE!
At the National Brewing Awards held during the SIBA Annual Conference in Bristol from the 2nd to 4th of March Ossett Excelsior won the Gold award for Strong Ales.
The competition for this award is fearsome with entries from all over the UK going into Regional finals and then only the top beers going forward to the National final. It is the second time that Excelsior has picked up this national award following our win in 2003.

NEW OSSETT PUB
Ossett Brewery is proud to announce the opening of our sixth public house. The Shepherds Boy in Dewsbury (127 Huddersfield Rd, 01924 454116) opened on Friday 17th of February.
The Shepherds Boy continues the tradition of our buying the freehold on an existing pub and then carrying out extensive renovations. In this case this has resulted in a four room layout one of which is non smoking.
The pub stands alone and has a large customer car-park.
Beer
Jim McGloine the landlord is pleased to offer a choice of 8 cask ales. 4 Ossett ales are available at all times as is Taylors Landlord. The other 3 pumps are given over to guest ales which change weekly.
Whisky & Wine
A wide range of single malt whiskys are available along with a range of quality wines.

EXCELSIOR WINS AGAIN!
On Friday the 13th of January at the SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) Northern Conference 2006 in Southport; Ossett Excelsior won the Gold award for strong ales. This is the third time that Excelsior has won this prestigious award following our success in 1999 and in 2003.
Winning any SIBA award is a real honour for us as the judging panels are made up from many of our peers in the brewing industry.
As a result of this win Excelsior is automatically entered into the final of the SIBA national competition on the 2nd and 3rd of March. Excelsior won this overall title in 2003, will lightning strike twice? Watch this space!

BREWERY EXPANSION CONTINUES
In October we had a new 40 Barrel Fermenting Vessel delivered along with two new 25 Barrel Conditioning Tanks. These were built to our specification by Moeschle of Germany.
The arrival and subsequent installation of these vessels has increased our brewing capacity to approximately 100 Barrels per week.
