Carrying On With The Annual Family Fun Day

There has been an awful lot of change at Ossett Brewery over the 20 years that it has been brewing beer, but one constant has been the enduring spirit to carry on, despite whatever chaos is ensuing around us. Demand for our beer pretty much dictates that we have to do that, but where others may chuck the towel in and give up, at the King’s Yard brewery we have learnt to adapt to whatever is thrown at us. The brewery itself has changed location and grown beyond recognition over the last few years, and our current expansion is presenting more daily challenges than a Tour de France winner has to face. But through it all, we dig in, continue on our merry way and persist with business as normal.

The annual Family Fun Day is usually held in September, but this year it made absolute sense to delay it until our cold storage warehouse was completed, and even this held a two-fold advantage to prove we really have our thinking caps on. Firstly we can show off our brand new facility to all our loyal customers and neighbours, and secondly everyone can enjoy the Fun Day fully under cover; the kind of full-bodied genius you could bottle and market.

Our brewery expansion started in July with ceiling works being carried out and dividing walls being removed. We have had a new car park built, while also taking delivery of new racking vessels and four new fermentation vessels (FVs). Our existing FVs have also been re-sited whilst new polyurethane floors have been installed in two stages, all whilst a new 10,000 square foot warehouse has been built on adjacent land, and all whilst we have attempted to keep production going at unprecedented levels and to our normal high standards.

The expansion work will continue well into 2018, ultimately bringing more brewing capacity and an enhanced customer facility at the brewery. We will detail exactly what work has gone on in a future blog post, but November 2017 sees the warehouse and logistics facility completed and we can’t wait to show it off at our Fun Day.

Another reason why we were so keen to continue as normal with our usual roster of events during the expansion, is because we have a duty to both our loyal customers and the wider community. We are thrilled that our beers and our estate of pubs have always been well received by local people across Yorkshire, and we want to bring that community into the brewery to see what goes on and to celebrate that success together. We are very proud of our roots in Ossett and we recognise the responsibility we have in carrying the Ossett name, so we love to invite everybody back to ours. But our Fun Day is primarily a fundraising event in which all the proceeds go to a charity that is close to our hearts, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield.

This will be the sixth year of our partnership with the hospice, a charity that supports local children with life-shortening conditions across West Yorkshire, and we have raised more than £20,000 over all the events so far. Considering the hospice needs to raise £4million every year to run the charity, it is clear how much they rely on the help of local organisations and we are more than happy to do what we can. And this is where you come in…

Our 2017 Annual Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday November 18th from 12 noon until 7.00pm. We have free parking available on the site at King’s Yard at the bottom of Healey Road in Ossett and we would like to invite you all to come and join us. The event will be held largely in our new warehouse facility, where you can enjoy live bands and acoustic sets from a series of great local artists, a bouncy castle and face painting, raffle prizes, BBQ food, hot street food, a range of cask and keg ales, along with wines, ciders and soft drinks, plus there will be opportunities to see the plans for our ongoing brewery expansion.

All proceeds from the day go towards the hospice and Ryan Grint, Community Fundraiser at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice says, “We are delighted to be supported by Ossett Brewery again at their upcoming Open Day! We have worked closely with Ossett Brewery for a number of years now and their annual Open Days always prove to be a fantastic and ever-popular event for the whole family and we can’t wait for this one too.”

Jamie Lawson, our owner at Ossett Brewery also adds, “Come and join us for a great day at Ossett Brewery. Bring all your family and friends and enjoy a day of live music, children’s activities and great beer, what more could you want and all in aid of a good cause.”

Every Family Fun Day we have held has got progressively bigger and better, and just as the brewery grows, so do our opportunities. With the warehouse opening we can guarantee a comfortable day for all the family, free from the threat of the weather conditions and we can also guarantee that every penny spent will be donated towards a fantastic cause. Contributing to the Forget Me Not hospice is a little something that we can put back into the community that we so rely on, and a reminder that we should all seek to carry on as normal whatever obstacles are put in our way. With that kind of spirit, we can go far and there are examples all around us.
